1. During last two semesters, we had a video project where the students were asked to direct a short film about anything and my group, Persona Production, directed an 8-minute long short film called Blackout. It was part of the requirement of Multimedia English course.
2. In the short film, friends of five (Hanan, Fatah, Sharon, Jion and Pain) went for holiday in an island. At first, the island seemed fun and joyful just like their holiday. But after a quite some time, they felt anxious about the island especially at nights. Plus, there was an old women kept watching them quietly from afar and their suspicious on the island became thicker. On one night, when all of them gathered together to have a chitchat, the old women approached them and told them about the dark side of the island. According to her, long time a ago there was a girl who had mental illness and brought curse to anyone who befriended with her. All of her friend were found dead. Because of that, she was sent to the mainland to get a treatment. In the middle of the storytelling, Hanan, went to toilet. She resisted Fatah from following her and she claimed that she could take care of her self even at night. Fatah then left her.
3. After a few hours, Hanan still had not yet come back from the toilet. Fatah then went to check her and found out that she was dead. The next morning, Sharon went missing. Fatah who chased her only found her shoes at the beach. Meanwhile, Jion and Pain saw what happened and they started to become suspicious about Fatah. They planned to capture him and tied him with a rope. After Fatah was tied, Jion and Pain went out to search Sharon. While they were having conversation about what had happened on the island, Pain saw a black figure next to Jion. In a flash, they were both killed.
5. Fatah who was alone in the room then heard the sound of the door opened. He did not believe in what he saw when the figure who held a knife on its hand turned out to be Hanan. Fatah then was killed right after that. The story ended with a cliffhanger without knowing what happened to Hanan and how could she still be alive.
6. In the short film, I played my role as Fatah. He was a very quiet guy and did not talk much with anybody. The friends were suspicious about him because of his mysterious look from the outside. However, we was the first who found Hanan and he knew things would get worse. Before he planned to save his friends, they lost their trust on him.
7. My experience regarding the video project gave me a glimpse on how productions work. Brainstorming idea was interesting and we had a lot of fun when we shot the video where we went to Cotton Island in order to fulfil the setting of the short film. I did the video editing too thus I learned how to edit the film from it.
